Roof Cleaning FAQ
What cleaning methods do you offer for roofs?
We offer three cleaning methods:
- Air-Assisted Scraping: A non-abrasive method using specialist tools and air pressure to gently remove moss and debris without water.
- Deep Clean (Low-Pressure Wash): A gentle rinse using low-pressure water to clean off grime and residue. This method is ideal for heavily soiled roofs that need a deeper refresh.
- Biocide Application Only: For roof which have been cleaned or are starting to show small signs of organic growth.
The first two methods are followed by the application of the HSE-approved biocide to kill spores and prevent regrowth.
Why should I have my roof cleaned?
Over time, moss, algae, and lichen build up on your roof, causing blocked gutters, damaged tiles, poor drainage, and an unsightly appearance. Cleaning your roof not only improves kerb appeal but also extends its lifespan and reduces maintenance costs.
What is a biocide treatment, and why is it important?
Biocide is a specially formulated treatment that eliminates moss, algae, and lichen at the root level. We only use HSE-approved products to ensure safety and compliance. It also prevents regrowth for up to 2–3 years, keeping your roof clean for longer.
Will roof cleaning damage my tiles or void my warranty?
No. We use safe, non-damaging methods tailored to your roof type. Unlike high-pressure washing, our techniques avoid surface erosion or tile lifting. We always check the condition of your roof before starting work.
Is there a lot of mess during roof cleaning?
Roof cleaning can be messy, but we fully protect your gutters and downpipes to prevent blockages. All debris is cleared and removed as part of our service, leaving your property spotless.
How long does a roof clean take?
Most standard residential roofs take 1–2 days, depending on the size, roof condition, weather, and access. We’ll provide a clear timeline with your quote.
Do you need to access the roof directly?
In most cases, we work safely from scaffolding towers or specialist access systems, avoiding walking directly on tiles unless absolutely necessary. Safety and surface protection are our priorities.
Can you clean roofs in winter?
Yes, we operate year-round, though very cold, wet, or icy conditions may delay work. Biocide still works effectively in cooler temperatures — it just takes slightly longer to activate.
How long will the results last?
Thanks to the HSE-approved biocide we apply after cleaning, your roof will stay clean for 2–3 years on average, depending on the surrounding environment (trees, shade, rainfall etc).
Will I need to clean my roof regularly
Not necessarily. With proper treatment, roofs typically only need cleaning every 3–5 years. Once clean, repeat biocide treatments are a great way yo keep organic growth at bay. We also offer maintenance plans to keep your roof free of moss and algae with minimal fuss.
